02 · SPECIFICATION REFERENCE

Bush Types, Sizes and Construction

A bush is specified by inner bore, outer diameter, length and durometer, and a bonded bush additionally by the metal insert drawing. Send those and we will quote it. Compound is a separate choice — any of our eight is available at any size and in any construction below.

Showing 8 of 8 entries. Durometer across the range is 45 to 75 Shore A, set on your drawing — it is what sets the rate, so a bush that is too hard transmits and one that is too soft wanders. A bonded bush needs the metal insert drawing with the rubber drawing; the bond line and the insert finish decide whether the part survives, and we cannot quote one without the other. Dimensional conformity to ISO 3302-1, class M1 to M4, as recorded on the drawing. Values are typical for the type and are not a specification for a particular part; see our technical disclaimer.

03 · MATERIAL SELECTION

Which Bush Material Do I Need?

A bush is chosen for how it behaves under repeated load and what surrounds it. Natural rubber and AEM cover most of what we make here; the others are what you move to when oil, weather or temperature rules them out. Name the duty and the environment and we will tell you which to specify.

NR
Temp. Range
−20° to +90°C
Hardness
30–80 Shore A

Polyisoprene, and the standard silent-block compound. The highest resilience and best fatigue life of the eight, with the lowest dynamic-to-static stiffness ratio — the property that decides whether a bush behaves in service the way it did on the rate curve. Not for oil, fuel or sustained heat.

AEM
Temp. Range
−40° to +175°C continuous to 160°C
Hardness
50–80 Shore A

Ethylene acrylic elastomer. Our signature compound, supplied to Mahindra & Mahindra for engine and transmission applications, and the reason this category exists in its current form. Holds its properties where oil, heat and ozone act together — the condition under a bonnet, and the one that ends a natural rubber bush.

NBR
Temp. Range
−30° to +120°C
Hardness
40–90 Shore A

Nitrile butadiene rubber, the general-purpose industry standard. Outstanding resistance to petroleum oils and hydraulic fluids at moderate temperature — the choice for a mounting that sits in oil. Dynamic behaviour is a compromise against natural rubber, so specify it for the oil, not for the ride.

CR
Temp. Range
−40° to +120°C
Hardness
40–90 Shore A

Polychloroprene. Balanced across weather, ozone and moderate oil at once, which is what an exposed chassis or linkage bush actually faces. Slightly stiffer and less resilient than natural rubber, and worth the trade outdoors. Also the family we reach for when flame retardancy is specified.

EPDM
Temp. Range
−40° to +140°C
Hardness
40–90 Shore A

Ethylene propylene diene rubber, the preferred material for weather-exposed linkages and anything near water, steam or coolant, with excellent ozone and UV resistance. Higher damping and lower resilience than natural rubber. Not for petroleum oils.

SBR
Temp. Range
−30° to +100°C
Hardness
40–90 Shore A

Styrene butadiene rubber. Abrasion resistance at low cost, blended with natural rubber where a bush takes rubbing contact rather than carrying a rate. Not for oil or fuel contact.

FKM
Temp. Range
−20° to +250°C continuous to 200°C
Hardness
60–90 Shore A

Fluorocarbon rubber, the first choice for aggressive chemical environments. High cost, high damping loss and low resilience, so it is rarely specified for a bush — it appears here because we mould it, and because a bush in a chemical or fuel environment occasionally needs it.

VMQ
Temp. Range
−60° to +220°C
Hardness
30–80 Shore A

Vinyl methyl silicone, the widest service range of the eight. Poor tear and fatigue resistance, and a bonded part in silicone tends to fail at the bond line, so it is rarely specified for a bush — use it for a static high-temperature spacer rather than a loaded pivot.

Lead Times and How We Quote

Margo produces in bulk against OEM schedules. Send the bore, outer diameter, length and durometer with your volume — and for a bonded bush, the metal insert drawing. Minimum run is 10,000 pieces per part number, per compound, or quoted against the part where size or complexity sets the economics. Prototype and first-article lots sit outside the minimum and are quoted separately.
